How To Properly Grade Vinyl Records

Hopefully this post will help you to properly grade your vinyl records.

Vinyl :

* SS = Still Factory Sealed (Shink Wrap or Tear Seal may be torn in spots)
* NM = Near Mint (No Damage that can be seen)
* EX = Excellent (A few very minor flaws, paper scuffs)
* EX Minus = Excellent Minus ( A bit more damage but still a very clean record)
* VG + = VG Plus (Will have light scratches / scuffs, Enjoyable player)
* VG = Very Good (More scratches etc., Will Play through with no skips or sticks)
* VG Minus = Very Good Minus (Pretty Rough, but still plays through)
* Good (Will have several major issues and usually only good until you locate a better copy)
* Fair (Almost Trashed, keep it if you like listening to pops, clicks, skips and sticks)
* Poor (Worse Yet, may be cracked or broked in some way, throw these away as they will never play close to enjoyably)

Covers :

* SS = Still Factory Sealed (Shink Wrap or Tear Seal may be torn in spots)
* NM = Near Mint (No Damage that can be seen)
* EX = Excellent (A few very minor flaws)
* EX Minus = Excellent Minus (Still a very clean cover)
* VG + = VG Plus (1 or 2 imperfections)
* VG = Very Good (Average)
* VG Minus = Very Good Minus (Below Average)
* Good (Will Have Numerous Issues)
* Fair ( This is Almost Trashed)
* Poor (Worse Yet Throw these away)

All Records should be kept in protective plastic outer sleeves.

Seam and Spine Splits can be neatly repaired with 1/2 inch clear tape.

Stickers can be removed with environmetally safe / non-toxic adhesive remover if possible. (Some just do not come off)

It is suggested that at least a 200 watt halogen lamp be used to inspect the vinyl records.
